Your own guide to tie a tie
![]() |
Before you put on your tie you must button up your shirt, going all the way to the topmost button and must have the collar up and firm. You can begin with the process of tying the tie keeping the wide end of the tie on the left or right side is just a matter of personal choice, so it is on you, that is if you are more comfortable beginning with the wide end on the left side then carry on with the side and if it is the right then maintain the right. The thing or say the principle you are supposed to take care of when you are tying up your tie is basically to keep your tie firm and tight throughout rather than leaving it loose.
Once when you are done with tying up your tie put down your collars, and make sure that the knot you have formed should be kept in the middle of your collar and also that the wide end of your tie must end about the center of your belt buckle, and nowhere below or above. If you do not get it in the right place or in the rightly formed position the first time you should simply unknot your tie and also try again, tying a perfect knot on your necktie takes practice. You can not just get it in the right place, if you are a starter, you must practice upon and get in to the habit of tying a perfect tie.
You must remember the beauty of a tie; the dimple. A good knot should always have a dimple. The dimple is the little indentation which lies right below the knot the tied knot. A good dimple is not made after you tighten your knot but before you tighten the knot. So, you must start by putting your index finger into the fabric straight under the knot while you lightly squeeze the side of the tie as you go on and tighten the knot by pulling down onto the wide end of the tie. You must place the dimple in the middle of your tie.
