Shirt it Right
![]() |
Choose wisely!
A white formal shirt is the typical choice for a formal occasion. But it is also predictable and dull. If you are attending a wedding or going for a job interview, it still might be the best choice. For more casual occasions, stick to soft colors and subdued patterns like pinstripes. Never ever make the blunder of wearing a translucent shirt for a formal occasion.
The Fit Does Matter!
The fit is the be-all and end-all of a good shirt. Unless your shirt fits you perfectly, with the sleeves being of the right length, and the collar being just right, your shirt cannot pass the test. Do not try to wear one with sleeves that expose your wrists, or one which has a collar that is so tight that it chokes you if you attempt to knot a tie. A loose collar is the height of tackiness because it will put your whole neck on display.
Get Your Buttons Right!
Do not leave any button unfastened on your shirt! Even the tiny buttons on the side of the sleeve near the shirt cuffs are there for a reason- for you to button them! Jokes aside, they will keep your forearm from being exposed, and buttons on your collar will make sure your collar sits properly on your shirt instead of sticking out and curling up.
