It is important to look appropriate and wear your suit right! Impressing your colleagues, staff, boss and gaining a reputation for dressing well adds to your goodwill. Different men’s suits fabrics are available and your choice defines how the overall suit will feel, and look. Knowledge about the different men’s suits fabrics will provide you with ability to choose for you according to your style and convenience. Hence, it is extremely important to carefully choose the right fabric for your suit.
• The first and foremost thing that needs to be done is to get accurately measured. This includes: neck, shoulders, sleeves, chest, waist and inseam. Once you know your size you are free to enter the trial rooms!
• Several fabrics are available in market according to season, class, and price. You can choose winter suits or summer suits. Here is a list of fabrics commonly used materials that make up a suit.
• Linen: It is a light and soft material that is used mainly during summer. It gives a very unwinding, calm and tropical feel. However, linen crumples easily and is prone to fading when prolonged exposure under the sun. It is also a fabric that stains easily and needs constant cleaning. So, a linen suit is although lightweight and will keep you very cool in the warmer months, but its downfall is that it creases very easily. It is best worn in summers.
• Cotton: One of the best worn fabrics for summers due to its airy feel allowing your skin to “breathe”. It has a soft feel to the skin since it is made from natural fibre and is extremely lightweight. Cotton is a durable fabric found in most suits. Cotton can absorb sweat and keep you cool throughout. Also, the fabric is quite practical and easy to maintain since it’s machine-washable. However, it faces the same problem with linen in that it creases easily. This can make your suit look furrowed but probably not as much as a linen suit. It is best worn in spring, summer and fall.
• Polyester: This is an artificial fabric but feel like natural fibre fabrics, but it can trap body heat. So one can feel quite sore wearing it for long hours. The advantage of polyester is that it does not wrinkle and it is a lot cheaper than the natural fibres.
• Flannel: Flannel isn’t quite as popular as it used to be because it’s a heavy fabric that doesn’t breathe much. It is very suitable for the winter due to it being heavier compared to other wool fabrics. Moreover, it is a very durable, rich, and down-to-earth fabric with a soft hand feel. A dark gray flannel suit is versatile and has been favoured by many.
