Essentials to be known while purchasing a suit!
![]() |
Nothing beats the elegance of a garment like a suit when selected and tailored correctly.
Weather it be a professional meeting or a formal date, the magic of this piece of clothing never misses a person’s eye. But I have met many men who have often found themselves in a flux when it comes to buying a decent suit for an occasion. The last minute hustle often leaves them with a piece that would either lack in fitting or in the quality. My research tells me that most men are not even aware about the essentials that they need to consider before buying a suit. So here I am with some primary options that one might confront while seeking this piece of clothing.
Before moving out to purchase a suit, you must first consider your already existing wardrobe and the styles and shades that have already found a place in your closet. If this is going to be your first suit then it is highly recommended that you pick a solid black wool piece. This is so because the nature of a basic black fabric is that it will never catch the eye of a person that it is the only suit you own. Besides, this suit gives you the liberty of wearing it with a shirt of any color.
This will render you an opportunity to wear this piece many a times without it becoming too stale because black is one color which never dies even if many seasons and eras come and go. But one thing that needs to be kept in mind here is that as far as the fabric is concerned, polyester suits are never an alternative for their woolen counterparts. If you do go into buying one then remember that this piece is not going to give you any mileage in terms of durability. Moreover polyester shrinks quite fast, is a heavy material, is not resistant to damage and is less breathable. If you are short of bucks then my advice to you will be to stay back and wait till you can afford a decent piece but never compromise on quality.
Well, if this is not your first suit then, a pinstriped should be the next best option. Pinstripes spell a style of their own and in their own way are more popular that their solid counterparts. The base color you go in for in this category should be the one which you do not already own until you start running out of colors. Some of the common base tones include brown, navy blue, taupe, grey, charcoal and tan. Also let me tell you that you should out rightly avoid shades of maroon and olive as they don’t go well with the masculine instinct and hence are considered eccentric colors.
So here we are! What I have written in this article is just a basic knowledge one must know before purchasing a suit, lest you may end up with a wrong color or get fooled into buying a cheaper quality. My next article will contain more of such tips on men’s garments so keep reading till then and happy shopping!
