Eco-Fashion: The New Lifestyle Trend
![]() |
When we think of fashion and style, we inevitably imagine gorgeous models, magazines and red carpets. We rarely visualize the environmental impact of carcinogenic and contaminating elements used to manufacture the product. There is a destructive and unhealthy side of using chemicals; the glamour quotient is only a small part of it. Although cotton is considered the primary material for the apparel industry, huge amounts of pesticides are used to manufacture one shirt. To avoid these carcinogenic and contaminating elements, many well-known textile manufacturers have produced clothes that are eco-friendly. Thus, eco- fashion or sustainable fashion is a novel approach to make fashion more eco friendly and less contaminating. In the ever changing world of lifestyle industry, eco-fashion is emerging as new style icon.
Eco-fashion includes any designer wear and accessories which refrain from using contaminating inorganic material. They use environmental friendly fabrics and organic materials throughout the production process. These items are usually made up of organic cotton, natural dyes, recycled plastics, bamboo, hemps etc. Eco fashion was initiated into the mainstream industry through organic Levis denim wear; today Gap has popularized organic T-shirts while American Apparel’s has gone the organic way throughout its designs. Linda Loudermilk, Jane Fonda, Debra Messing and Jennifer Beals etc are the pioneers of eco-fashion movements. Linda’s classic brand called luxury eco use organic raw materials like bamboo, sasawashi, sea cell, soya etc. Nila Velenti’s green fashion fabric called Natures future is also made from organic products like hemp, recycled bottles and organic cotton. Another popular designer who has significantly contributed to eco fashion is Young. Through his designs, recycled and organic fabrics are turned into high-fashion dresses, skirts, blazers and trousers to fit lifestyle of the urban people who live in cities.
Today many companies promote green trade that aims at the farmer’s development in third world countries Ciel is a new luxurious men’s wear which reflects its commitment to nature. They use a range of soft organic materials for making this premium product. Natural High Lifestyle is another company which inspires consumers to become more aware of the impact of their purchases, inviting individuals to choose products that are not only stylish, functional and durable but also made from fast-growing, sustainable natural resources. The company offers a distinctive line of West Coast-inspired clothing, bags, and accessories for men and women that is well suited for yoga, surfing, and California lifestyles. They also offer a line of home accessories including duvet covers, meditation cushions, and beach blankets, demonstrating the versatility of natural fabrics and affirming the company’s commitment to a comfortable, conscious lifestyle.
Though eco- fashion is emerging as a new trend, consumer demand is still not enough to attract big market and investment.
