The shoes which are worn at events which are smart casual or more formal are known as dress shoes. It is a typical contrast to an athletic shoe.

Dress shoes are also worn as standard daily shoes by a lot many people. They are also worn to dances, for special occasions or for parties.

Men’s dress shoes are usually in black or brown, but there are other colors too such as burgundy, oxblood, chestnut, cordovan or white. But the material used for their make is leather mostly, mostly entirely, which includes the outers and also lining, and sole, but for better durability reasons and at the cost of elegance, most of the shoes are built over with rubber soles.

Oxfords:
Oxfords as called in British and balmorals as in America are the kind of shoes which are laced up, and are tied to be worn and kept in place. They have a closed lacing, in which laces join the pieces of leather and are they are taken to the bottom and sewn. Most of them also possess an extra portion of leather which is placed over the toe part and sewn over it. This is called a toe cap. These shoes go best with suits.
Monks:
This kind of shoe, does not possess any kind of lacing, it just has a buckle and a strap. It is closed by the use of these two.

Derbies:
Derbies or bluchers as they are called in America, they are not much different from oxfords, but they adorn open lacing. They are formal, but not as much as the oxfords. The usual colors are brown.

Loafers:
They are also called slip-ons; they are common for both the men and the women styles. It is not a very big thing if a man loafer has a tassel to it, and not to miss that these are there in women pairs also. They were originated as men shoes, and still hold the image of being men shoes only. But they are now gaining popularity as women shoes also.

There are other styles too, to add to the other dress shoes given above. These are not very popular formal wear, namely, court shoes, or dress boots which can be used as an everyday wear
