Coordinate!
Match the color of your belt to your shoes. Never try wearing a black belt with brown shoes and vice versa. And for formal occasions, the colors to stick to for your shoes and for your belt are only black and brown. Also don’t make the mistake of not wearing a belt. A formal pant with empty belt loops and a tucked shirt can make you look quite ridiculous.
Shoes & Socks
Stick to a good quality pair of formal leather shoes for a formal event and always wear appropriate dress socks. No flashy patterns and wild characters on your socks please! Stick to muted colors and subdued patterns. Match your socks with your outfit and make sure they don’t stick out like a sore thumb.
Show your Bling!
Make sure your clothes are ironed properly, your shoes are shined to a high gloss and your watch and sunglasses, if you are wearing a pair, are of good quality and formal. Flashy frames and sports watches will be the sore points in your outfit and can ruin it. If your socks have a hole in them or your shoes have a loose sole, fix it before you decide to wear it. Take care to match the shades of metal you are wearing in your accessories. If your watch is silver, stick to a silver ring if you are wearing one, or else wear a two tone watch. Don’t mix tones in metal. It always pays to invest in accessories of good quality because they add the much-needed touch of class to an outfit, taking it from simply-ok to rockin’-wow!
The hallmark of a well-dressed man is the care that he takes in looking good in whatever he wears. This attention to detail will ensure that you aren’t ever caught on the wrong foot when it comes to fashion, and that you don’t ruin what could have been an extremely chic ensemble.
